In 2005, Adam and Liza Hodgkins found that they were expecting their third child. When abnormalities of the heart were discovered at the 19 week ultrasound, they started a journey that would hold incredible emotions and stresses for themselves, their family and certainly for young William Hodgkins when he was born.
William is the son of 2 doctors and shows that childhood heart disease strikes without fear or favour.
After the diagnosis it was deemed necessary to intervene in the pregnancy to improve William's chances of survival.
So in 2006 William became the first child in Australia to successfully undergo in-utero heart surgery. Thankfully this all went well and although still needing ongoing medical attention and some future operations William has just celebrated his second birthday.
